Mrs. Esther Saint Jean

1912-1999

Mrs. Esther Saint Jean was a woman of vision with a fine eye for philanthropy. She began to document her work in 1978 through her letters to local businesses, inviting them to provide financial assistance to the education of youths. Her labor delivered support to socially and economically disadvantaged young people in Haiti.

Despite undeniable challenges in the scarcity of social infrastructure and services on the field, Esther Saint Jean persevered in her efforts to provide spiritual strength and educational services to orphans. She prayed with people who suffered from illnesses and provided spiritual comfort to individuals with disabilities.

Esther Saint Jean’s goal was to convert illiteracy into education and severe poverty into socio-economic development. She shared her vision with her church and her community. An action that instilled a hunger for knowledge and a desire for personal growth in children and adults, from the remote community of Bizoton in Jacmel. Where she built a house of worship, known as the Church of God.

In the late 80’s, she extended her endowment by supporting employment opportunities in the community of Carrefour. She granted a platform for the import-export of intricate lacework. This business known as Lubin Enterprise, directly impacted the economic development of women of the community and empowered them with dignity and respect.

Esther Saint Jean’s legacy inspires service, while her determination transcended through her work and instilled innovation, in the people who had been fortunate to work with her. In this spirit, her service lives on.
